10 Years Of Hartwell

The year 2026 marks the tenth Anniversary of Hartwell Insurance. It feels as though it was just yesterday that two enterprising Lloyd’s brokers set up Hartwell Insurance in the fair State of Tennessee. Simultaneously, it also feels as though I have lived every step of the way. The Chinese have a saying that the longest journey starts with the first step and the journey that we started ten years ago continues forwards, thanks to the grace of God, into an ever exciting future.

Hartwell was created, almost by accident, with the express intent to help people, the founding business was to be a Guarantee to help people, who had lost their homes in the 2008 market crash, back into home ownership. We have never lost sight of that original goal and we feel passionately that a Captive Insurance Company is the perfect way to help our clients. Captive Insurance brings with it a unique perspective in the Insurance Industry – to help in the most genuine way possible our clients to self insure. The aims of Hartwell and of our clients are always, always aligned.

At times we have been a lone voice crying in the wilderness, extolling a way of insurance that is different to the rest. Slowly at first but now with increasing rapidity Hartwell has grown as more and more clients hear about our service levels and our sincere approach to our business.

We now handle in excess of $200,000,000 of client premiums annually, have hundreds of clients all over America and have paid out well in excess of $100,000,000 in client claims. All of us at Hartwell are justifiably proud of our achievements but, in truth, we are only just getting started. The future is so very exciting and we are looking forward to sharing it with you all.

Throughout our history we have been supported by the Department of Insurance in our State of Domicile – Tennessee. We feel truly fortunate that we chose Tennessee in which to be licensed as it has been such a great domicile in which to form our Captive. We honestly could not have wished for a better home State, thank you Tennessee.

Hartwell is also one of the few Captive Insurance companies to carry an independent credit rating. We are rated “A Exceptional” by Demotech and Demotech have been another wonderful supporter of Hartwell for the past 6 years. We are very proud of our credit rating and are grateful for the support of our friends in Demotech.

What does the future hold? Well, if we knew that then that would make us a truly formidable Insurance company indeed! But our wish list is to own our own Insurance Company in order to front for Hartwell Cells, we wish to expand our Captive offerings and we want to create a Reinsurance Company to provide support and backing to all of our clients. 

So I conclude by thanking everyone at Hartwell for their hard work and dedication. The Hartwell Team is what really sets us apart and makes us truly unique, so thank you Team, it’s really wonderful working with you all. Thank you also to all of our clients, you are all such a varied and fascinating group of people, we never have a dull day and handling your business is our honor, thank you for putting your trust in us.

It’s been a great beginning but I can say with complete confidence that the best is yet to come.
